Sri Lankan officials are launching an investigation into the attack on a key military base that left 13 service men dead and one spy plane completely destroyed. The attack happened during the early hours of the morning, which means that the rebel suicide squad had to be at the perimeter of the base exactly around the time that Sirasa Superstar (the Sri Lankan version of American Idol) was airing on local television. Since there aren’t televisions at key sentry locations nor at checkpoints, officials believe that security guards had left their posts to watch the popular television show allowing the suicide rebels to sneak by undetected.

Sri Lankan officials released this statement:

“There are no TVs at sentry points, but the alertness of sentries and whether all positions were properly manned is being probed…”
