Give it a rest already.

I haven’t seen this much turmoil over something since Rosie thought it was a good idea to have Broadway show.

Lowe’s hardware is now jumping on the ‘retard’ band wagon and pulling their sponsorship from Big Brother 9. Autism United almost went into a tailspin last week when Adam referred to children with retardation as… “retards”. Or should I say r****ds? There are so many screwy problems with censorship and what’s PC and what’s not PC I can barely keep this list updated! I don’t even remember him ever specifically referring to autistic children as retards- other than the fact that Adam works for/used to work for an autism organization. However; it was the autism groups that started their attack.

Don’t laugh when you read this, but this is that statement made by Autism United:

“CBS owes an apology. People with autism are not “retards”. Last week on an episode of the CBS program “Big Brother” cast member Adam Jasinski referred to people with autism as “retards.” This dehumanizing language is unacceptable. When Don Imus used racially callous language on his program CBS executives Leslie Moonves and Sumner Redstone issued an apology, fired Imus and cancelled his show. We call up Mr. Moonves and Mr. Redstone to issue an apology to people with autism and other developmental disabilities, fire Adam Jasinski, and cancel Big Brother.”

My favorite part has to be, “People with autism are not ‘retards’.” No, no, those are the other kids down the hall, the ones with the helmets who ride the short bus. We’re not ‘retarded’ we’re just autistic. Don’t insult us autistic children like that! We actually have superhero powers. We can taste colors, compose symphonies, have incredible memory, and sometimes the lucky ones can fly!

Also, I just want to quickly add that they completely misspelled the word ‘cancelled’, Evel Dick is that you typing the statement or is there another computer out there that doesn’t have spell check?

CBS countered with the following statement:

“As stated last week, we certainly find the statements made by Adam to be offensive, but believe they were countered by the immediate reaction of shock and condemnation from a fellow houseguest (Sheila). Adam’s remarks would not have been permitted to air unchallenged.

Big Brother is a reality show about watching a group of people who have no privacy 24/7 — and seeing every moment of their lives. At times, the Houseguests reveal prejudices and other beliefs that we do not condone. Any views or opinions expressed in personal commentary by a Houseguest appearing on Big Brother, either on any live feed from the House or the broadcast, are those of the individual(s) speaking and do not represent the views or opinions of CBS or the producers of the program.”

CBS doesn’t control what these people say, they are not their birth parents. Bigotry, racism and homophobia stretch way further back on Big Brother than Adam calling some kids ‘retards’. Perhaps you should be examining the state of America in which a term like this is popularly used than trying to make an example out of some nobody person on some nothing reality show. Had Adam not been actually using the term correctly would this have caused as much of a stir? Had he said, “That’s retarded,” in reference to something like… Amanda’s face, would it have been alright? Is it a matter of the word itself or the context of which it is used? At this point it’s all a matter of semantics. I think your time and energy would be much better spent on devoting your efforts to HELPING those with autism than trying to make some political statement by pulling your ads from Big Brother. I dare you, I double dog dare you, to instead of using that $400 million you spent on advertising last year, you donate it to an autism foundation- bet you’d never think of doing something like that! But I doubt your company really cares…

Lowe’s had this to say about their removal of advertisements:

“Once it was brought to our attention, we decided not to advertise [on Big Brother] further… We’re delighted Lowe’s is doing the responsible thing. These companies are very careful about developing their brand image and relationships with their customers… Being associated with Big Brother and the comments made on the show is something most responsible companies should not want to deal with.”

Lowe’s are you seri?

Of all the things that have happened on Big Brother over the years you choose this one isolated incident to ‘nail’ them on? I can give you a laundry list of other offenses, far worse, than anything Adam can say about retarded children.

  • Erika Landin (Big Brother 4) in reference to Jee: “Fresh off the boat mother fucker. Korean piece of shit.”
  • Allison Irwin (Big Brother 4) in reference to Robert: “Cuban faggot.”
  • Ivette Corderro (Big Brother 6) in reference to Kaysar: Compared him to Osama bin Laden called him a “fake Muslim” and a “sand nigger”
  • Evel Dick (Big Brother 8) in reference to Jen: Stated that he wanted to sodomize her until she bled to death.
  • Eric Stein (Big Brother 8) in reference to Evel Dick and his daughter Daniele: Stated that the two were have an incestuous relationship.
  • Amber Siyavus-Tomcavage (Big Brother 8): Referred to Jewish people as “selfish” people with “big noses”.
  • Dustin Erikstrup (Big Brother 8): Referred to his black dog as a “nigger bitch”.

Take your pick. I can probably think of a lot more. I find it a bit odd that suddenly, out of nowhere, you’re opposed to anything that may seem controversial given the track record of the Big Brother program. Your argument that CBS chose to air the comments really holds no ground. Even had the comments not been aired, us live feeders would have picked it up, and I have a feeling the same results would have transpired.

There have been many instances of which CBS has chosen NOT to air comment they found to be controversial. For instance, the entire rant Amber had with Jameka in the backyard about Jews. CBS knew this was wrong to air, so they didn’t air it, but regardless of the fact they chose not to air this on television didn’t divert any sort of media firestorm surrounding the scenario. CBS has no control over what these people say, holding them accountable for their actions is just ridiculous.

Don’t you all have anything better to do with your foundations and companies? Don’t try to rob me from Big Brother…
